Who's who at LGC and how do I contact them?

The clubhouse team at LGC work closely together and liaise frequently with all relevant parties - i.e. ground staff, your Board of Management, sub-committee teams, volunteers, etc. We are always here to help and you are welcome at any time to speak to any of us in person, over the phone, or via email. In this table, we have listed typical workdays and contact methods - please note however that due to events, staff leave, etc, the workdays are a typical guide only.

On Friday 17th June the Brian Twite bowl was hosted by LGC. We were delighted that Brian himself was able to make the trip from Melbourne to present the trophy. Our yearly event sees teams from all over the region compete  - teams included: Churchill and Monash, Cowes, Foster, Korumburra, Meeniyan, Metropolitan, Wonthaggi, Woorayl and Yarra Bend. Thank you very much to our kitchen volunteers on the day of Norm Hughes and Wayne Keen.

Congratulations to the winning team of Rebecca Thomas, Colleen Touzel & Chris Lay. They narrowly edged out the Woorayl stars of Pauline Lancaster, Elly Berryman & Jo Fennell by 1 point.

Grade Winners on the day were:

A Grade: Bec Thomas, LGC

B Grade: Beth Curram, Foster Golf Club

C Grade: Neryl Hopcraft, LGC

Elders Day

On Friday 3rd June 2022 a full field of 150 took to course as part of Elders South Gippsland Charity Golf Day. Once players finished their rounds, it was time to move out of the cold and enjoy a tasty steak and chips, along with the chance to bid on auction items and try their luck in the raffle. The day helps raise funds to assist three families from the local region facing challenging times. This year's recipients included:

  1. Eight-year-old Liam Lund, who has a rare and serious condition, Aplastic Anaemia
  2. 11-month-old Emmie Donchi, who has recently been diagnosed with infant Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia,
  3. Geoff Whykes who had to close his Korumburra butcher shop after being diagnosed with kidney, liver and lung cancer

LGC is very proud to support club member, Ross McRobert, in running this day which raised over $40,000. We would also like to acknowledge our amazing and ever-supportive volunteers for their help on this day:  Colleen Touzel; Karen DeGroot; Wayne Keen; Andy and Lynda Bassett.

Peter Walsh scores a hole-in-one!

On the 15th of June, Peter Walsh managed every golfer's dream, taking out a hole-in-one on the 14th hole!

At age 73 this was Peter's third hole-in-one. His first was at the age of 15 years on the 9th hole at Commonwealth GC, which was Peter's father's home club - with the 9th hole being outside the bar, the head barman saw the shot and announced that his father would shout the bar! (much to Peter's father's delight when presented with the tab).

It was a long time before Peter achieved his second hole in one last year on the 16th hole of LGC. Now you are in amazing form Peter, we look forward to hearing about your fourth and fifth holes-in-one on the 4th and 7th!

Members having a chat

Norm Hughes (25-year member) and amazing volunteer in our kitchen, took the opportunity to have a catch up with our local resident, This Koala can regularly be seen crossing the 1st tee to climb into this tree - dubbed our 'Koala Tree' next to the practice putting green - make sure to keep an eye out and snap your own selfie.

New Paving

LGC is very proud to announce the new concrete has been poured out the front of LGC and is looking fantastic. The funds raised for this were through very generous member donations.

We can't wait for the weather to warm up a little bit and for this area to be used for a drink or two after your round of golf.

A very big thank you to our club volunteers, Peter Brownlie, Project Manager, and John Moor, Chair of Greens - we really appreciate all the two of you do for LGC.

Volunteering

An ad hoc working bee was conducted on Monday 27th June, with 15 members pitching in to lend a hand. The work these crews get done is sensational - this time around our members concentrated on clearing scrub along the left-hand side of the practice fairway and cleaning up around the 7th tee, whilst Helen and Neil Mackenzie focussed on the gardens around the clubhouse entry. As usual, the volunteers come in for a well-earned light lunch and great chat. If you can spare anytime to come along to a working bee, please do, not only do these crews make a huge difference to our course, they also are a great way for members to get to know each other better.
